Computer Science orientation week (O-Phase)
The Plan for This Year’s Orientation Phase (O-Phase)
General Schedule of the O-Phase
On Monday at 9:30 AM, we will meet for the first time in Lecture Hall MN08 in the Geography Lecture Hall Building.
Initially, you will form smaller groups, which you can choose yourself. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and make first contacts with other computer science students.
If you cannot attend the O-Phase in person, please contact us via email. We will provide the important information digitally.
After the group formation, there will be a welcome session where the organizing team will introduce themselves and explain the course of the O-Phase. Next, we will have a tour of the North Campus, to give you a general overview of our campus. Afterwards, lunch will take place at the Info Department. Then, you will get to know each other better in your groups – there will be some fun icebreaker games prepared by your tutors.
In the afternoon at 1 PM, there will be several informational talks. At around 3:30 PM, there will be a special session for those pursuing a two-subject bachelor’s degree, especially future teachers. Meanwhile, everyone else will have a chance to get some fresh air and continue with the program at 4 PM. A pub quiz is scheduled, where you can either stay in your groups or form new teams. The day ends with a game night that starts at around 7 PM, offering a great opportunity to continue making connections in a relaxed atmosphere.
Tuesday starts at 10 AM with the study start block, where you will get to know all the important university systems such as StudIP and FlexNow. This will give you a good overview of your first semester, which is especially helpful to navigate the beginning of your studies. You can also get answers to some important questions you will likely have in the first weeks of your studies.
After that, we will visit other important locations at the university and end at the dining halls of the Z-Campus.
In the afternoon, there will be an exciting city rally that starts at 2 PM at the Z-Campus. In smaller groups, you will have the opportunity to get to know Göttingen better and compete against each other in various challenges. Please be punctual, as joining later can be difficult and might result in unbalanced teams. In the evening, there will be an awards ceremony followed by a celebration at Stilbrvch.
On Wednesday morning, the so-called Crossover Day takes place, which is important for all students in the two-subject bachelor’s program. If you’ve been participating in the Computer Science O-Phase until now, this is your chance to join the O-Phase of your second subject.
The afternoon will feature the North Campus rally, where you will compete against teams from other faculties on the North Campus. You can end the evening in a relaxed manner in a small group during a pub night in Göttingen. If a pub night doesn’t appeal to you, there’s an option to enjoy a game night at the Mathematics building; an absolute alcohol ban applies here.
Thursday begins with an extensive breakfast, giving you the opportunity to start the day comfortably.
Afterwards, there will be the last information block, followed by various workshops.
The O-Phase concludes with a Flunkyball tournament, where the groups can compete against each other. This will be followed by the big NC party, where the entire North Campus gathers, and you can meet first-year students from other faculties.
On the final day, a hangover breakfast will take place, allowing you to wind down the O-Phase at the Computer Science Institute. Anyone who feels fit enough is also welcome to help the student group and the O-Phase organizing team with the cleanup.
Program
The entire O-Phase will take place in person. You will receive all the necessary information by simply being present at the times given above. Everything else will be worked out on-site.
Even though our O-Phase is designed for in-person participation, you will, of course, receive all the important information for starting your studies even if you cannot attend in person.
